Wednesday's card leans on pitching and parks. Three plays cleared the bar, and they run through three different games, which is exactly how a card should look. No stacking everything into one matchup, no chasing a number in a game that fights us.
Start in Minnesota, where the play is on the first five innings only. Shohei Ohtani has been overpowering on the mound, working around a 1.50 ERA with a WHIP under one, and Joe Ryan has quietly been one of the better starters in the American League at right around three with elite control. Two arms that miss this many bats should keep the early innings quiet, so we want the first-five under before either bullpen gets involved.
Out in San Francisco, Gage Jump has been excellent since his call-up, sitting in the low twos with soft contact across the board, and he steps into one of the most pitcher-friendly parks in the game. The marine layer at Oracle holds fly balls in, the Giants have struggled to score all season, and the total sets up well for a quiet night.
The third play is a side. Milwaukee carries a clear bullpen advantage into Cincinnati, where the Reds sit near the bottom of the league in relief ERA, and the Brewers have owned this matchup for a long stretch. With a steady arm in Drohan keeping his ERA in the mid-threes, the deeper and stronger team is worth backing at a fair price.
The card also crosses into the WNBA tonight with two sides. Golden State comes home as a near coin-flip underdog against an Atlanta team on a four-game heater, with the Dream pouring in over a hundred a night, a pace that usually regresses. The Valkyries have been a good bit sharper at home, where they slow the game down, so catching more than a field goal in a game that projects close is a comfortable number. The other is Chicago, hosting a Portland team that has had a full week off but still cannot find rhythm. The Sky have played tougher than their record shows, dropping a couple of one-point games lately, and grade out clearly better over the last few weeks, so laying a field goal at home is the side.
Tonight's Card
