Last night was a 6-0 sweep. Best night of the season. The natural instinct after a night like that is to press, load up the card, and ride the hot streak. I'm doing the opposite. Three plays tonight. That's it.
The MLB slate is thin. Six games, and most of them have conflicting signals. The ones that looked good on paper had problems once I dug into the data. Atlanta lines up on paper but the matchup grades out a coin flip. Houston has an elite starter but the total leans over, not under. Pittsburgh is a heavy favorite but the edge isn't there at -180.
What's left is one MLB side I like, and two basketball totals that jumped off the board.
The Plays
Patrick Corbin has a 5.61 ERA in 5 career starts against Baltimore. His last two outings have both been rough, three earned runs in each. He's been bad this year and he's been bad against this team historically.
On the other side, Chris Bassitt has a 3.46 ERA at home compared to 8.02 on the road. He's a completely different pitcher at Camden Yards. His last start there was his best of the year: six innings, one earned run. The Orioles are 17-13 at home. Toronto is 10-16 on the road. Corbin's pitch mix plays down against right-handed heavy lineups, and Baltimore's lineup has the plate discipline to exploit a pitcher who has been struggling to find the zone.
Nine of the last fourteen conference finals Game 6s have gone over the total. That's 64.3%. The Thunder and Spurs have gone over in five of their last six head-to-head meetings.
Oklahoma City has the best offense in basketball this season. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been unstoppable. San Antonio has the firepower to keep pace. Wembanyama is averaging 28 points in this series. Fox and Harper can score in bunches. Closeout games in the conference finals tend to be high-intensity, fast-paced affairs. Both teams know what's at stake. The Thunder want to end it. The Spurs are fighting for survival. That combination pushes tempo, and tempo pushes points.
The total at 218.5 sits below the recent series average. Both teams have the talent to blow past this number.
This is the play I feel best about tonight. Indiana has the top-ranked offense in the WNBA. They score 7.5 points per game more than their opponents typically allow. Golden State has the league's best defense, but the Fever's transition game creates fast-break opportunities that even elite defenses struggle to contain.
The line opened at 171.5 and has dropped to 166.5. That is five full points of value for over bettors. Both teams are 4-2 and playing well. Both shoot the three efficiently. Indiana's pace and ball movement should keep this game in the 170s. Getting this at 166.5 feels like a gift.
Yesterday's Results
Wednesday, May 27: 6-0, +5.55u
Perfect night. Sanchez threw 7 shutout innings with 9 strikeouts. The Phillies ML, the under, and the K prop all cashed from the same game. F5 under cashed clean despite a Mize injury in the 4th. Game totals continued the streak. Ohtani shut down the Rockies to close it out.
Game totals with elite pitching are now 11-2 on the season. F5 unders are 10-1. Those bet types keep printing because the thesis is sound. When both starters suppress hard contact and generate swings and misses, the total stays low.
Why Only Three Plays
Discipline after a sweep
The worst thing you can do after a 6-0 night is get loose with your standards. The same process that produced six winners yesterday is the same process that's producing three plays tonight. The filter doesn't care what happened last night. It cares about what the data says right now. And the data says three plays.
Thin MLB slate
Six games. Most of them have conflicting signals. Atlanta's matchup indicators line up, but the price still leaves the game too close to call. If it grades out a coin flip, I'm not betting it no matter how many people like the side.
Basketball totals are undervalued
I've been more aggressive on basketball totals this month. The data is telling me that totals are mispriced more often than sides, especially in the playoffs and in the early WNBA season while books are still calibrating their lines. The Fever/Valkyries total dropping five points from the opener is exactly the kind of line movement that creates value.
The Approach
Small card tonight. Three plays, 3.53 units of total risk. The season record speaks for itself. This is the first time all three major sports have been on the same card. MLB, NBA, and WNBA. Each play stands on its own. Each one passed the same filter.
Fewer plays does not mean less conviction. It means fewer plays passed the standard. That is exactly how it should work.
Total risk tonight: 3.53 units
Record: 47-29, +14.79u, 17.9% ROI
