01 The bottom line

BetMGM is the book for two kinds of bettors: the one who wants the biggest first-bet cushion in the market, and the one who already spends money at MGM properties. The $1,500 first-bet offer is the largest headline number among the majors, and MGM Rewards is a real loyalty program that turns betting volume into comped rooms and dining in Vegas. Nobody else ties online betting to a resort empire like this.

The product itself is a solid second-tier experience. The market menu is deep and the odds are broadly fair, but the app runs a step slower than FanDuel and DraftKings, and the complaint file is heavier than we would like: withdrawal holds, locked accounts, and slow support come up repeatedly in user reviews. It earns a spot as a second or third account, not a first.

02 Is BetMGM legit?

Yes. BetMGM is a joint venture between MGM Resorts International, the casino giant behind the Bellagio and MGM Grand, and Entain, one of the largest gambling companies in the world. It is licensed and regulated state by state everywhere it operates, the platform is fully encrypted, and KYC verification is required before your first withdrawal.

Legit does not mean friction-free. BetMGM carries a 1.7-star average across roughly 714 reviews on PissedConsumer, with withdrawal delays and account locks the most common themes. In fairness, angry-customer sites skew negative for every book, and the complaints are about speed and support rather than money disappearing. Your balance is safe here. Getting it out just is not always as quick as the marketing says.

03 Welcome offer & promos

As of late August 2026, the headline offer is a first-bet offer up to $1,500. Deposit at least $10 and place your first real-money wager. If it loses, BetMGM refunds the full stake in bonus bets. Stake over $50 and the refund comes back as five bonus bets worth 20% each; under $50 and it is one bonus bet. Bonus bets expire in seven days. The version we checked was listed through September 1, 2026.

Be honest with yourself about what a first-bet offer is: it only pays if you lose, and it pays in bonus bets, not cash. A guaranteed bet-and-get is worth more to most bettors than a big safety net. Where BetMGM makes it back is after signup: regular odds boosts, parlay insurance promos, and MGM Rewards points on your wagers.

04 Markets and bet types

The menu covers everything you would expect: all four major US leagues, college football and basketball, soccer, golf, tennis, MMA, and a long international tail. Same game parlays are fully supported with a builder that works fine, just without the polish of FanDuel's. Player props run deep on the major sports, and the One Game Parlay branding covers combined prop-plus-side tickets.

On pricing, most reviewers land where we do: fair and competitive on main markets, without consistently leading the market in either direction. The app is the real gap. Reviewers describe it as mirroring DraftKings on options but running slower, and that matches our experience: an extra beat on page loads and live-market refreshes. Perfectly usable, never the fastest in the room. The MGM Rewards integration is the feature no competitor can copy.

05 State availability

As of late August 2026, BetMGM Sportsbook is live in 23 states plus Washington DC and Puerto Rico, covering every major legal market including Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming, plus Nevada with its own offer structure.

Note the welcome offer is not uniform: the four-state group of Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia gets a smaller bet-and-get deal, and New York was listed with no welcome offer at all when we checked. Confirm what your state actually pays before you sign up.

06 Payouts and trust

Deposits start at $10 and the method list is long. Withdrawals are the weak spot in the reputation. Quoted speeds run from within 24 hours on the fast rails to 7-21 business days for mailed checks, and slow payouts are the single most common complaint in user reviews. Plan around PayPal or online banking and skip the check.

MGM Rewards deserves its own line: you are auto-enrolled, you earn points on wagers, and the five tiers (Sapphire up to Noir) unlock perks redeemable at 20+ MGM properties. If you take one Vegas trip a year, this is the only sportsbook loyalty program that meaningfully pays for part of it.
